ABOUT US
At The Lutherie Shop we offer full service repair and restoration on all fretted instruments. We strive for the highest level of quality in our craft and seek to insure our customers are satisfied with all aspects of the service we provide. We work hard to maintain a solid reputation and “word of mouth” is the only form of advertising we employ. As a customer of The Lutherie Shop you can be assured you will receive an honest evaluation of your instrument’s needs and be given solutions to fit your needs. We operate out of a 2000 square foot climate controlled facility. We maintain an ideal 40-50% humidity and 70 degree temperature year-round. Our machines are connected to a central dust collection system in an effort to keep dust to a minimum. Our finish and buffing rooms are fully separated from the rest of the shop and fed by a heated make-up unit mounted on the roof.
SCOTT ROHDEN
I've been playing guitar since 1979 and after tearing apart and rebuilding many of my early instruments, I went to work for several retail stores and did repair work for them. My formal training started in 1995 when I did a 2-year apprenticeship under luthier, Dave Plummer. After that I opened my own repair shop and operated that for 7 years until Tim and I joined together to open The Lutherie Shop.
TIM THELEN
I began playing guitar at 13 and shortly there after started acquiring pawn shop beauties that became my first experiments. I graduated from the fretted instrument repair and building program in Red Wing, Minnesota in 1998. Since then I’ve worked in shops in New England and around the Midwest. In 2004 Scott and I after trading work back and forth for several years decided to partner up and started The Lutherie Shop. I’m very proud of the level of service and quality we provide and look forward to a long career of repair, restoration, and building BilT guitars.
BILL HENSS
I attended Roberto Venn School of Lutherie in Phoenix, AZ in 2003, learning the basics of guitar building and repair. After graduating I went to work for luthier Dave Plummer building and repairing guitars. Dave’s health began to fail so I went to work for a couple of local cabinet shops building and designing custom cabinetry. During this time I had begun acquiring power tools and building acoustic, wiessenborn and electric guitars. I came to work at the Lutherie shop in January 2007.
